Open Wheel Drivers Switch To Sports Cars
As Alex Barron And Dan Selznick
Run A BGB Porsche For 2008

For Immediate Release

(Ormond Beach, FL- December 28, 2007) Unlike most of Wall Street and the rest of the working world where it’s fairly quiet during the week between Christmas and New Year’s, the pendulum is in full swing for teams preparing for the 2008 Test Days at Daytona.   Three days of testing will precede the 46th running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona at the end of January and things at BGB Motorsports are in full swing as usual.  The team is busy preparing for the 3 hour Fresh From Florida race that will take place the Friday evening before the 24 hour race.  With 60 cars on the entry for the Test Days next weekend, the Grand-Am Koni Challenge Series is on pace again to have another potential 100 car field when they return on January 26th, 2008.

BGB’s pair of Porsche 997s will undergo some revisions to their traditional lineup of drivers and Porsche pilots for 2008 however.  Tim Traver will remove his name from the #83 BGB Motorsports entry where it’s been since 2005 and join Craig Stanton in the #38 Porsche 997 next weekend at Daytona.  Inheriting the #83 BGB entry are Dan Selznick and Alex Barron.  Both Selznick and Barron cut their teeth on driving a race car with a roof last month at Daytona as they spent 3 days getting acclimated to the car, Daytona and BGB during an Audi Club of America sponsored driver education weekend.  BGB driver Craig Stanton was on site to provide insight and coaching for the weekend for the two.  Team manager John Tecce had more to add:

“This is really exciting for us, the Koni Challenge Series and even Grand-Am.  Here are two open wheel guys that spent more time in a car with a roof last month than they ever have in their life and they’re already on pace.  I can only imagine what will happen when we’ve all had a chance to gel a bit.”

Dan Selznick and Alex Barron have had a relationship on and off the track for nearly a decade; 2008 will be their first season as “codrivers” in addition to being friends and teammates.  The two were pretty excited as Selznick added:

“I'm looking forward to competing under Grand-Am’s endurance racing format.  I've got great teammates with Alex Barron and BGB Motorsports, and I just hope that I can get up to the level to where I’m not holding us back.  It should be a lot of fun and good racing!"

Selznick won’t have to wait long though and neither will Barron as the two ended their weekend on pace and already comfortable in the car.  While it’s quite rare to have a Toyota Atlantic and an IRL driver in a Koni Challenge car for an entire season, BGB actually has a history of putting a roof over the head of open wheel pilots that have never raced a sports car.  In 2003 Star Mazda Champion Guy Cosmo won his first race ever in a sports car with BGB and during 2004 Michael McDowell and Rob Finlay cut their teeth on sport scars with BGB for an entire year before moving to start their own team.  BGB hopes to fast track Selznick and Barron to the front and make 2008 as successful a season as 2007 was for the team and their Porsche program.

BGB Motorsports is an ambitious, professional motorsports business.  In 2006 the team won the 6 hour VIR finale, securing the manufacturers trophy for Porsche Cars North America. During 2007 BGB Motorsports finished 3rd in the 2007 Koni Challenge Team Championship.  The #38 Porsche finished in the top-10 seven consecutive times in seven attempts and visited the podium during all 3 final races in 2007.  Based in Daytona Beach, Florida, the team operates as a customer oriented business, running cars under the Grand American Road Racing, SCCA and Porsche Club of America sanctioning bodies.
