Cosmo Records Another Top-10 For
BGB Motorsports In New Jersey
RACE BROADCAST TODAY, SUNDAY JULY25th AT 1:00PM, EST ON SPEEDTV
July 25, 2010 (Ormond Beach, FL) – Taking part in this past weekend’s Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Garden State 250, the BGB Motorsports team would face incredibly hot conditions and some bad luck early during Thursday’s promoter test day on the 2.2 mile New Jersey Motorsports Park course; despite starting at the back of the field and on a course that favored the larger V8 Mustangs, Camaros, and BMW M3s, Cosmo and his No.83 Performance Drink Porsche 911 would finish the race in a strong eighth position.
Finishing 23rd, teammates Keith Carroll and Duncan Ende soldiered around after their car went behind the pit wall for suspension repairs that were as a result of a first lap tango with another competitor. The weekend didn’t begin as planned for the duo that arrived in 8th place in the Team Championship, as they sat out Thursday and Friday’s practices while the car underwent extensive frame repair. Ende was an innocent bystander spinning through another competitor’s oil during the opening session on Thursday. His contact with the barrier damaged the frame rails of the Cayman but the folks up the street from the track at South Side Auto Body in Vineland, New Jersey worked until the wee hours of the morning to deliver the car back to the BGB crew for repairs to make Friday’s 2nd practice session.
The BGB Motorsports team was down to two cars for the weekend as the No. 38 BRM Watches / Laps.com Porsche Cayman was still undergoing frame repairs as a result of heavy contact at the EMCO Gears Classic at Mid-Ohio last month.
Starting in the middle of the field, the No. 23 Racers Roast Porsche Cayman S driven by Keith Carroll was repaired after the contact on lap 1 and Carroll’s co-driver Duncan Ende was able to get behind the wheel later in the race, but the car was ultimately retired after fifty-two laps. The two would have to collect as many points as possible from their 23rd spot and regroup for the next event.
Starting deep in the field in the #83 PerformanceDrink.com Porsche entry, team principal John Tecce, who was subbing for regular driver Stewart Tetreault, avoided a first-lap, first-corner stack up and safely turned the No.83 Performance Drink Porsche Carrera over to Guy Cosmo at the 3rd full course caution period. Cosmo then made a beeline to the front of the field, using pit strategy and his speed to get well within the top-5 of the field in the latter stages of the race.
Despite losing a couple of positions in the final hour to cars with fresher tires, Cosmo brought the car home safely in eighth place for yet another top-10 for the team in this year’s CTSCC. The result propelled the No. 83 BGB Motorsports to sixth in the team championship, with the No. 23 BGB Motorsports team in ninth.
“Guy Cosmo brought it home for us in New Jersey and represented well,” said John Tecce following the race. “The race played out in a way that would have been perfect for the strategy of both cars, so it was really too bad what happened to the Cayman after the weekend they had. He and Duncan would have been in the top-10 with Guy at the end of the race. But Guy drove a great race and we executed a perfect strategy made possible by a great pit crew.”
Don’t miss all the action during SpeedTV’s broadcast of the New Jersey Motorsports Park race at 1:00pm, EST on Sunday July 25th. The broadcast will air again on Thursday July 29th at 3:00am, EST.
The BGB Motorsports Porsches will return to action August 13-14 at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres on the temporary Circuit Trois-Rivieres in Quebec, Canada. The team’s intention is to have both Caymans repaired in time for the next event where its team of drivers will attempt to contend for podiums with only 2 races remaining on this year’s schedule.
